The Far West Academy Lone Star program is looking for talented athletes in the communities of Broken Hill, Ivanhoe, Wilcannia and Menindee. If you compete at a
regional, state or national level in your sport you may be eligible to apply.
What is the Lone Star Program?
It is a scholarship program that provides financial assistance and support to talented
young athletes in the Broken Hill region to enhance their opportunity of competing at
a higher level. It also provides education and support services such as personal
development, nutrition and sports psychology.
Who can apply?
Athletes aged between 13 and 18 years of age in 2015 (i.e. born between 1997
2002) living or attending school in the local government areas of Broken Hill,
Central Darling Shire or the Unincorporated Far West. Athletes must compete in a
sport recognised by the Australian Sports Commission. Scholarships will not be
offered to athletes playing netball, tennis or rugby league as the Academy provides
squad programs in these sports.
What are the benefits?
 Financial support (from $500 to $1500).
 Athlete education sessions that enhance important off-field skills.
 Individually tailored development opportunities which best support progress
through the athlete pathway (e.g. expert coaching, one-on-one appointments
with health or industry professionals).
 Uniform.
 Support from FWAS Development staff.
