AUSTRALIA'S PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SEDENTARY BEHAVIOUR GUIDELINES
Australia's exercise guidelines have recently been overhauled, and they're going to come as a rude shock to many of us. Not only are we being told we need to do a lot more physical activity, but we're also being urged to get out of our chairs even if we do the right amount of exercise.

TRAINING SESSIONS BY 'COMMANDO' FROM THE BIGGEST LOSER
"Commando" a trainer on the Biggest Loser will be giving 2 training sessions of 1.5 hrs on 30th November at the O'Neill soccer fields. First class at 9am, second at 4pm. Limit 36/ class. Cost $199 incl photo, for YMCA members $150 or a group/organisation of 8 cost $1000 ($125/person). Fees will go towards YMCA and St John's Ambulance. Contact YMCA or Temple of Fitness to book

New evidence points to the fact that in some instances, environmental tobacco smoke (ETS - what comes from a smokers lungs and off the end of a lit cigarette), can be just as toxic as those same fumes when they are confined and breathed in, indoors, by the non-smoker.

Approach with caution when it comes to so called 'Energy Drinks'. Take a look at what is actually in that little can and ask yourself - does your body need it? Why do you drink it in the first place? Big food companies are shelling out a lot of money to convince you to drink this cocktail. Water is cheaper and better for you because it doesn't mess with your health.

Walking is good for you, and brisk walking with a few hills thrown in is even better for your heart, lungs and circulation. However, as you age, coordination and strength diminishes, so if you want to stay one step ahead, think Tai Chi, Strength Training, the local hospital's 'Stepping-On' program, Dance and Yoga, to maintain your strength and coordination and PREVENT FALLS!

For a lot of people getting motivated to be regularly active presents a challenge. There are many things you can do to keep yourself 'honest' with physical activity and for Francis Boreland, the secret lay in doing something that she loves - horse riding. It took a while to get there but persistence is paying off. To become a better rider, Francis has also taken up Pilates and walking so there are even more dividends !

Living Desert Dash is on again and from this year, all participants will be on the inaugural 'Living Desert Legends' list. It's a community event for all walks of life, all age groups and all levels of fitness with distances to cover ranging from 10 to 1 kilometer. Festivities at Picton Oval from 10 am onwards.
